TROPICAL STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR DOMINICA AT 2:00 PM…..ISAAC MOVING FASTER WESTWARD

A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected within the warning area less than 24 hours in this case.

At 2pm the centre of Tropical Storm Isaac was located near latitude 15.1 degrees north and longitude 55.7 degrees west or about 370 miles east of Dominica. Isaac is now moving west at 21 mph (28 km/h). Maximum sustained winds remain near 60mph or 95km/h with higher gusts. Tropical storm force winds extend out to 175 miles (280km) from the centre.

Isaac’s structure has degraded further with its centre becoming fully exposed, however it continues to pack tropical storm force winds. On the current forecast track, Isaac is expected to pass over or near to Dominica, by tomorrow afternoon, as a tropical storm (39-73mph).

A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Dominica at 2pm. Residents are advised to keep informed on the progress of this system and to remain vigilant. Preparations should by now be completed or rushed to completion. A deterioration in weather conditions is expected across Dominica tonight, increasing to widespread moderate to heavy showers, thunderstorms and winds gusting to tropical storm force by tomorrow morning. Rough to very rough seas are expected to begin affecting Dominica this afternoon through to Friday.

All users of the sea are advised to take all necessary precautions to protect life and property.

Current rainfall amount projected for Dominica is between 4 to 6 inches (100 to 150mm) with higher amounts in elevated areas.

·         Mariners and other users of the sea should remain extremely cautious. Large waves of 12.0 to 16.0ft and dangerous rip-currents will create unsafe conditions for small-craft operators. Sea-bathers should stay out of the water. A High-Surf Advisory and Small-Craft Warning will be in effect from 6pm Wednesday September 12, 2018.

·         People in areas prone to flooding, landslides and falling rocks are advised to be extremely vigilant and to exercise extreme caution as life threatening flash flooding and mudslides are possible from after midnight tonight. A FLOOD WARNING will be in effect for Dominica from 6pm this evening to 6pm Friday September 14, 2018.

The next update on Tropical Storm Isaac will be issued by the Dominica Meteorological Service at 5pm.
